COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF THE TRANSLATIONS OF PUN BASED HOMONYMY IN SHAKESPEARE'S DRAMAS
Abstract
The article presents a comparative linguopoetic analysis of peculiarities in the Uzbek and Russian translations of the author's puns in Shakespeare's dramas, which are mainly embodied in homonyms. Also, we studied what translation methods (compensation, omission, copy, modulation, total change) were used by the translators in the presented analyzes of the translations. Many problems and tasks in the science of translation are still waiting to be solved. The issue of translation of the pun (word play) is also one of them. Wordplay is a multifaceted phenomenon that, performing a number of functions, occupies a special place in the works of W. Shakespeare.
