FOSTERING CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS OF LANGUAGE LEARNERS IN READING CLASSES WITH THE MEANS OF DETECTIVE STORIES.

Abstract

This thesis illustrates the ways to encourage critical thinking ability in English classes and offers an effective method as well as the teaching material on this.  The method is called as the “Six hats” which offers a different approach to problems, through which the teacher encourages students to think analytically.  The selected teaching tools:  detective stories were applied to keep the learners` attention in alert and find out the best solutions to the mysteries among other alternatives. Both approaches were grounded on the problem –based learning, one of the effective strategies of enhancing CT.
